'Beauty and the Beast', a Tale as Old as Time
There are few movies that Hollywood has been able to remake with such a level of excellence that they outshine and/or enhance the original. The 2017 remake of the 1991 Disney classic, Beauty and the Beast, is one of those movies.
I saw this movie two weeks ago with my mom and sisters and we all thoroughly enjoyed it! The 1991 version was one of the Disney classics we loved watching growing up so we were pretty excited when the remake was announced. We also were a little bit apprehensive because, lets be honest, Hollywood doesn't really have a good track record when it comes to making remakes! But, we were proven wrong with this one.
What I loved most about the movie was how closely they followed the original movie (same story, same songs). Yes, they embellished the story a little and added more songs but it only enhanced the movie, not detract from it.
In this version, you got to learn more about the backstories of Belle and the Beast and you got to see and feel them fall in love. I have to rewatch the original but I feel like the romance is much more real and more natural in this one than in the animated one.
The casting in this was spectacular and every single character was believable! In particular, the casting of Belle and the Beast; Emma Watson, Hollywood's current golden girl, brought her own charm and beauty to the role and Dan Stevens, famous for his role as Matthew Crawley on Downton Abbey, brought his own charm and finesse to the role of the Beast.
For a fan of the original, animated version, you'll certainly fall in love all over again with this version. If you haven't seen it yet, I highly recommend you go see it... it is truly a masterpiece!
