Love at the Christmas Table is one of the first made-for-TV Christmas movies that I absolutely fell in love with; I try to watch it every time it's on! The thing about this movie that makes it unique is that it only takes place on Christmas Eve. For 27 years, we are privy to the growing pains of Sam and Kat as they grow up and try to figure out what they both want in life; but only on December 24th.
I love stories where the main couple start off as friends, start seeing each other in a new light and then try to navigate their feelings and decide whether it's worth the risk to pursue that romantic relationship.
Starring Danica McKellar (who was known for playing Winnie Cooper on The Wonder Years and has since become a "Queen of Christmas" over on the Hallmark channels) and Dustin Milligan (I'm not sure what he was famous for before Love at the... but according to his IMDB profile, he's been a main character on Schitt's Creek as Ted Mullens since 2015.)
Other notable actors with starring roles are:
- Lea Thompson as Elissa Beth Dixon, the woman that hosts the neighborhood Christmas Eve party every year. Lea is most famous for being a part of the Back to Future franchise, playing the character of Lorraine Baines.
- Scott Patterson as Kat's father, Tom Patton. He is most famous for playing the part of Luke Danes in the TV show, Gilmore Girls.
This is a great holiday movie! The antics are hysterical (for 27 years, the two never really leave the Christmas Table - a table built by the two dads at the beginning of the movie that was used primarily as the kids table), you will want to throttle the characters sometimes because of their decisions but the ending will make you swoon. If you haven't watched it before, check out the trailer below and then check out Lifetime's schedule to make sure you catch this wonderful movie the next time that it airs.
